Background:
Safe schools are essential for student’s physical, intellectual, social and emotional well being.
Students should be in class at appointed times. Chronic lateness is unacceptable and consequences will be at the teacher's discretion.
All students are expected to demonstrate a level of good grooming and dress which reflects self-respect and pride in our school.
Students may not wear clothing or exhibit materials which display profanity, inappropriate messages, or promote liquor, beer, any drug or controlled substance.
Students wearing what may be regarded as inappropriate clothing will be asked to change or go to class with school loaned clothing. In some circumstances administration may send students home for failing to observe expected standards.
Unaceptable clothing includes short shorts, tops with spaghetti straps, tube tops, halter tops, mesh shirts, muscle shirts, half-shirts and bare feet.
Outer jackets are to be kept in lockers. They are not to be worn in class.
Students are not allowed to wear hats in the school.
All accidents should be reported to the teacher in charge who will in turn report to the principal.
Melville Comprehensive School is a smoke-free building. Students are not permitted to smoke or use other tobacco products on the grounds or in front of the school or in the student parking lot. Any smoking paraphenalia openly displayed within non-smoking areas may be confiscated from a student.
The use of cellular phones is prohibited in the school. Cell phones will be confiscated and kept for an indefinite period of time.
The use of listening devices is prohibited in the classroom. Listening devices will be confiscated and kept for an indefinite period of time.
Violence/abuse is not tolerated in or around our school and will be dealt with in a manner appropriate to the situation.
