MCS Presents Melville & Area Job Fair
Dear Business Vendor,
We are excited to announce that Melville Comprehensive School (MCS) will be hosting its 2nd annual Melville and Area Job Fair. This comes on the heels of last years successful event!
This event will take place on Wednesday March 26th, 2025, and because of last year’s successful event we will be using the MCS Gymnasium for the vendor booths.
The Melville and District Job Fair is an opportunity for local businesses and organizations to come together to educate both students and community members about their business and potential job opportunities within it. Offering this event within our school community will allow for an affordable opportunity for students, families, and local businesses to meet, liaise, and connect. Our stakeholders have an opportunity to talk to businesses and organizations on a one-on-one level.
This event will be split up into two parts, with 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM being reserved for staff and students from MCS and other surrounding communities and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM being open to the general public. There will be a built-in Networking Supper which will offer time for exhibitors and special guest to learn from one another.
2024 was our first attempt at putting on the Job Fair. We are really looking for to how to make our event even better!
MCS wants to help encourage our student body and their families to keep an open mind when it comes to future career opportunities in and around the Melville and District area. Secondly, MCS wants to help local businesses fill potential employee shortages. Further to that, hosting this event will allow local businesses an opportunity to communicate directly with local training centers about the required skills and credentials of your future employees. Most importantly, we at MCS want to hear from local businesses and organizations (small and large) about what we can do to enhance our educational opportunities in order to make learners even more prepared for and marketable in the ever-changing workforce.
Although there is a small cost to attend this event as a vendor, the opportunity offers mutual benefit for you as a business and directly to our school. Proceeds from this event will allow MCS to begin to refurbish our trademark "Well.” Currently, the "Well" is a spot where our senior MCS students go to meet, hangout and connect with one another before and after school, during spares, and over the lunch hour. We are hoping that a facelift to this area will make the “Well” more than just a spot for students to meet, offering a more modern and comfortable spot for students to be able to do schoolwork. A re-vamped layout would include computer charging stations and seating that’s more conducive to student learning. This upgrade will also benefit our junior students, as the recycled “Well” furniture will be moved to the upstairs area, where currently, very few comfortable meeting spaces for grades 7-9 students exist.
In 2024 we were hoping to reach 50 booth spaces, we ended up getting 38. However, those 38 took multiple booth spots. We are hoping to attract 50 booth spaces for this years event. The MCS Gymnasium will provide a much larger space to work in. There are many possible ways for your business to contribute to this event, which include setting up a booth, sponsoring the event, purchasing tickets for our Networking Supper, buying an ad in our Career Fair Booklet, or printing and providing handouts about your business for dispersal at the event. For more information on how to get involved, please see the information sheet attached.
MCS looks forward to hosting the opportunity to bring students, families, and businesses together. If you have any questions about the event, please contact myself, Principal Darren Wandy, at 728 4181 or by email at darren.wandy@gssd.ca
Respectfully,
Darren Wandy
Vice Principal, MCS
